Grace

Root Word
χάρις

Grace is favour given without regard to merit—a gift that is unearned and transaction-free. This favour is bestowed based on the nature of the giver and the pre-existing relationship between the giver and the receiver.

Grace is not an object, it is the nature/character of the one who is extending the gift in order that the one being given to might receive it.

If grace is an object, then it becomes the thing that saves, and not Christ.

Old Testament

Jonah 4:2 And he prayed to the Lord, and said, I prayed to you, O Lord, didn't I say this, when I was in my country? Therefore I fled before to Tarshish (Spain): for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, you are slow in bringing judgement.

New Testament

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you are saved through faith; and not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
